Idea of national Goods and Services Tax (GST) was mooted by Kelkar Task Force in 2004.
Then Union Finance Minister, Shri P. Chidambaram, while presenting the Central Budget (20
announced that GST would be introduced from April 1, 2010.
Talks gained momentum in 2014 when the NDA Government tabled the Constitution (122nd Am
Bill, 2014 which became Constitution (101st Amendment) Act, 2016 on 8th September, 2016.
This was followed by enacted by central and state GST laws and finally on 1st July
2017, GST was launched. J&K also passed the GST law on 8th July 2017 leading to
