Pediatric Case 9: Charlie Snow (Core)
Guided Reflection Questions
Opening Questions
How did the simulated experience of Charlie Snow’s case make you feel?
I enjoyed the experience of this kind of Sim. I was still a little unsure of myself and
wound up skipping just a couple important steps because I wasn’t sure what would
happen if I clicked that button.
Describe the actions you felt went well in this scenario.
My entrance into the room, handwashing, introducing myself to patient, identifying
him and his family members all went smoothly. I took the patients vitals and asked
the appropriate questions regarding his issue. I made the patient feel at ease with
a toy and offered him a drink.
Scenario Analysis Questions1
EBP What priority problem did you identify for Charlie Snow?
I identified that the patient has contact dermatitis most likely due to the detergent
that his aunt used to wash his clothes.
EBP What complications might Charlie Snow face if his allergy is not recognized and
actions are not initiated in a timely manner?
If left untreated, the patient can start having difficulty breathing, he could start
wheezing, his throat would be itchy and it would feel like its closing up.
Further delay can lead to death.
PCC What teaching measures should be included during Charlie Snow’s visit to the clinic?
1 The Scenario Analysis Questions are correlated to the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN)
competencies: Patient-Centered Care (PCC), Teamwork and Collaboration (T&C), Evidence-Based
Practice (EBP), Quality Improvement (QI), Safety (S), and Informatics (I). Find more information
