- Pain comes and goes even when resting
- Unpredictable, frequent, tendency and duration
- Pain will feel tight like being squeezed

- Also final: Nitroglycerine taken sublingually
- Take 3 times on their own, if pain doesn’t go away on 2ndintake, call 911
3. Hydrochlorothiazide - pt. teaching
- Excretes potassium
- Ask patient they are taking other medications (diuretics)
4. Atenolol beta blocker - pt. teaching
- Do not take this med with any other diuretics
- Causes decreased HR
- Teach pt. to avoid discontinuation of the medication and taper when discontinuing
5. Propranolol - pt. teaching
- Make sure to not give meds to pt. with asthma
6. DVT - complications
- At risk for pulmonary embolism

- Pt. will feel pain at places distal to the obstruction

- Decreases blood pressure

- Teach pt. not to take ginkgo-biloba – suppresses coagulation
- Glucosamine
- Saw Palmetto – anti-platelet
10. Hypertension and hyperkalemia - nursing action
- Do an EKG
11. Post-cardiac catheter - nursing action
- Make sure the pt. stays flat or supine for 6 hours
12. Hypertension and epistaxis - SATA
- Teach pt. not to tilt head back
- Teach pt. tilt head forward and apply pressure and ice
- Put pt. in High Fowler position
