Parenting - Stereotypes & the Attitude.
Before we move on, I'd like to call upon 3 volunteers.
Since we’ve been sitting for such a long time, we would feel stuffy and there's a way to make
ourselves feel relieved. I'd like to ask our beloved volunteers to demonstrate it for us.
1. Put your hands above your head and hold it together
2. Put one of your legs up, whichever you prefer
3. Now close your eyes and lean back and stretch
How do you feel? Better? Yea no shit coz I made all that up!!
This, ladies and gentlemen is called influence. One thing about influence is when this occurs,
our common sense just turns itself off. It is human nature to be influenced by an influential
person.
Speaking of being influenced, the first people that influent us is ofc our parents. They're the
first people we met when we arrived on earth. Hence it is normal for us to walk talk, act and
follow our parents' footsteps. After all they made us and they built this bit-by-bit.
We as humans tend to be more like our parents than anyone else.
Can I see a show of hands of how many of you guys are proud to be descendants of your
parents? (Impressive or I expected more.)
Well now can I see a show of hands how many of you guys do not want to be like your
parents? (I did not expect this many of you guys to raise your hands I got to say I'm shocked.)
Is there anyone in this crowd that does not want to have kids because you're afraid you'll
raise them wrong? (I raise my hand)
Me too. I totally understand. This is because there still are people who raise their children
with the wrong stuff that builds them differently.
In the survey we had shown you guys earlier, a few of their answers were what their parents
told them what to do and not to do which was stereotypical. For instance, parents tell their
sons not to cry because they have to man up??? And as for daughters, they're expected to do
chores!!?
These stereotypes are the base of gender roles at home. When children are exposed to these
growing up, they'll end up thinking that's how everything is as well in the outside world.
They will start treating everyone according to the stereotypes they've heard. By doing this,
they're growing much more familiar and comfortable living with stereotypes. For these
people, stereotypes put things in place.
When people are living with stereotypes, accepting it as it is, they're technically built with it.
And this is what shapes their attitude towards everything.
You see, these stereotypes are being applied in a very subtle way in our very homes.
