, Question 1
Time. A lack of time is caused by a variety of factors, including single-parenting and work
pressures.
Uncertainty. Parents are frequently unsure of what to do and the significance of their
involvement.
Cultural barrier. Because of the disparity in life experiences and perspectives, there may be
difficulties with language or communicating with schools.
Lack of supportive environment. Schools have not always attempted to nurture families,
and low-income parents, in particular, may require assistance if they are to participate.
A sense of feeling unwelcome. Parents will not feel welcome if educators do not provide
additional support or communication.
To a larger extend the school has succeeded in improving parental involvement. The
following initiatives has been implemented:
Time. Our staff of teachers is flexible with schedules, times and days of the week. Our schools
also move meetings to venues that are more assessable to the parents.
Uncertainty. We find ways for them to use their talents to benefit the school. We also have
written policies that address parental involvement. Being unaware how the system works we
also provide a handbook containing rules and procedures and giving answers to typical
questions. We address the real issues, listen to the parents as well as using their ideas.
Cultural barriers. We translate material, using English on one side and another language on
the other side. We also use the telephone to contact parents. We also seek new participants
who represent various cultural, socio economic and religious groups.
Lack of supportive environment. We give parents personal attention, literature and classes
on parenting, and perhaps even a recourse centre. Those with a low-income and struggle with
transport we meet in their homes.
A sense of feeling unwelcome. We as a school welcome the parents personally and the
schools works with the school staff to make all parents feel welcome.
Question 2:
The view of learners

humanity. Educators must be aware of this, as well as the fact that a positive attitude toward
children, despite their flaws, is far preferable to a negative attitude. If educators see learners
positively, they will be more likely to allow learner participation in decision making and class
work.
However, if an educator views learners as people who are negative about work, lack ambition,
are lazy, are prone to avoiding responsibilities, and are unmotivated, and who must be
