beings.

➢ A low sound is pleasant.
➢ A loud sound is unpleasant and is commonly referred to as noise.
➢ Noise can be defined as “an unpleasant and unwanted sound”.
➢ Loudness is definitely the most significant criterion which converts sound into noise.
➢ Exposure to loud noise is annoying and harmful.
➢ Noise pollution is the most of the people as sound pollution.
➢ Sound is a pure tone.
➢ Sound is related having fixed frequencies and amplitudes, occurring at regular
intervals of time and produces meaningful communication and pleasure in hearing.
➢ Noise is an unwanted sound having a complex mixture of number of pure tones to
various frequencies and amplitudes.
➢ Sound is the form of energy giving the sensation of hearing and is produced by
longitudinal mechanical waves in matter including solid, liquid and gas and
transmitted by oscillation of atoms and molecules of matter.

SOURCES OF NOISE POLLUTION
➢ Industrialisation and modernisation have contributed noise pollution to a great extent.
➢ In most of the world’s major metropolitan areas construction and transportation
sources (trucks, motorcycle, sports cars and aircraft (both civil and military)) are the
most serious offenders.
TYPES OF SOURCES OF NOISE
➢ Sources of noise are numerous.
➢ It is classified into two classes:
I. Industrial
• The industrial include noises from various industries operating in cities like
transportation, vehicular movements (car, motor, truck, train, tempo,
motorcycle, aircraft, rockets, defence equipments, explosions etc).
• The disturbing qualities of noise emitted by industrial are
▪ its loudness
▪ its distinguishing features such as tonal or impulsive
components
▪ its intermittency and duration.
II. Non - industrial
1. Loudspeaker: In India, one of the very common man
made source of noise pollution has been the frequent use
of loudspeaker.
