WHAT LAW WILL YOU PASS IF YOU BECOME A PRESIDENT?
Reflection Paper.
There are a lot of government systems that are need to be improved but I
would like to focus on issues that have always been a problem of our country.
If I were to become to be the next future president of the Philippines, the
first thing I would like to improve is our justice system because from what I have
been seeing, the system only favors the rich and powerful people but the poor
people and those who speak and challenge the oppressors suffers. There have
been reports before that many innocent people were being wrongfully convicted.
The murder case of Ms. Jennifer Laude is one of the examples of our unfair justice
system. Mr. Pemberton’s murder case was reduced to homicide and was
sentenced a six to ten years of imprisonment. However, the after serving five
years on jail, he was released because of his “good conduct” which was unfair to
other inmates who were wrongfully convicted or has a light case compared to Mr.
Pemberton. Another example is about Ms. Reina Mae Nasino, a jailed activist,
who was not given the opportunity to mourn properly for her deceased child.
Compared to well-known and powerful people, like Bong Revilla, Zaldy Ampatuan
and Jinggoy Estrada, who did illegal doings that are against the law such as
plunder and graft charges and murder, had more freedom to meet and visit their
family. We could tell immediately that there are a lot to improve in our justice
system. The justice system that should be for everyone only favors the rich. The
laws that were made to protect all the Filipinos, especially the poor people, are
only making them miserable as our justice system is such an anti-poor.
Our poverty and population keep on increasing every year, as a future
president I would like to pay attention too on family planning and educating
people, even the minors, about sex education and importance of using protection
on having intercourse with a person. In relation to family planning, I would like to
have a limit on having children depending on their income and their ability to
raise the child properly as well as encourage them to use contraceptives such as
condoms, pills or implants. With the help of the local governments, they should
conduct seminars about family planning and give them access on protections for
free, especially for the poor. I believe that Sex Education will have a crucial role as
the teenage pregnancy rate is rising too. With the gained knowledge, teenage
pregnancy will probably decrease in number. Without the knowledge about safe
sex, unplanned pregnancies happened, and mostly in times when they are not yet
ready to have one, for this reason, some people want to abort the fetus yet they
can’t or they do it secretly and risk their lives as abortion is unsafe and still illegal
