Social class inequality

Education
Firstly, social class inequality can be reinforced through the
education system due to the financial struggles of households in
the uk as a result of the current climate. Statistics have
identified that 14% of the uk population qualify for FSM in
schools and out of these individuals 14% achieve grades c-A*.
This is in comparison to those without FSM whos concept of
elaborated and restricted code in school. This highlights the
lack of academic capabilities working class pupils have due to
being born into a less financially fortunate household and the
inequalities working class individuals face as a result of this.
This immediately puts working class individuals at a disadvantage
as it could be assumed that their parents may be less equipped to
academically provide support for their children or simply may not
have time due to having to work overtime to provide for their
families. Meaning working class pupils typically leave education
with fewer qualifications and are selected the less skilled, less
academically stretching jobs. Students who qualify for FSM may
underperform in schools due to numerous factors such as : being a
young carer, having to work part time to support their families,
material and cultural deprivation which closely links with BBCs
society.

A second way in which social class inequality is reinforced in
todays society as the more financial income particular social
classes obtain, the better mental and physical wellbeing theyre
able to look after themselves. This may explain as to why working
class individuals tend to struggle fighting off bacteria and long
term illnesses as they lack the necessities to do so. For
example, a lack of a nutritious, balanced diet may also play a
large part in this, as discovered in the Avon longitudinal study.
This is because working class families are only financially
equipped to afford packaged, processed foods such as crisps and
chocolate due to their low price tag. Overall resulting in a lack
of a nutritious, healthy diet thats society is through financial
income. This can be highlighted through the ONS statistic that
the richest 100 people in the uk earn the same amount as the
poorest 18 million. This data reinforces the wealth divide and
stark contrast in financial income in society and the in
inequality working class individuals face. This can be identified
during the recent outbreak of corona virus as working class
individuals faced redundancies or were furrowed and an increase
in unemployment due to the crowded, risker job environments theys
social climate post lockdown.
