REFLECTION PAPER ABOUT THE MEDICINE MAN
I feel that the message in the movie is telling us about finding something, then
losing it only to go and find something much much more than what you originally
found. And also the message that the movie was telling us is that we should protect
mother nature because the cure for any sickness is in mother nature. We need to
preserve it, protect it, and take care of it, because same in the movie the cure or
we can make a cure to any sickness from mother nature.
We’re too busy in improving and maintaining technology that we do not notice that
we are destroying mother nature. Such as in the movie there are people clearing
the land in the Amazon because they’re building a road and cutting trees, same
goes in here we’re focused on building houses, building a condominium, building
roads, and other stuff. Almost all the trees in the forest are gone. And in return,
we are now experiencing climate change, such as flash floods, that causes illegal
logging, because there are no trees, too much heat on earth that causes
greenhouse gasses, and air pollution that causes smoke from factories, and cars.
And in the movie the part of the amazon where the Indians are living burned
because of the bulldozer that causes the fire and burned almost the forest. And the
same goes here, the government is forcing people to relocate because the people
who live in that place don’t really own the place so what do they do with the place?
They build buildings in that place. Not thinking what are the effects of this on the
people and the environment. And in the last part where the medicine that can cure
cancer is not the flower, but a species rare and indigenous to the rainforest.
So we really should protect nature because there are rare species/plants that can
make medicine to treat a different kind of sickness just like in the movie. Like I said
we should take care of it, and protect it, we need to plant more trees, reduce the
greenhouse gasses that cause heat on earth, and protect and preserve plants and
animals, especially the rare ones because we don’t know they might have or they
might be the cure for any sickness.
