I wanted him to be able to see the visuals and my examples well. I plan on using divided attention, working memory, and self-reference effect. Divided attention is an important one because as I mentioned my signifant other has ADHD, so sometimes he will be on his phone when I’m talking to him. Most of the time when he’s doing this he only hearing a third of the things I’m saying. This is why I had him put his phone away to ensure that wouldn’t be a distraction. Chapter 4 pointed out that when professors speak or show slides too quickly, the working memory system can be overly taxed. This results in less information making it into the long-term memory. To make sure that this information makes it into my signifcant other’s working memory, I will read the slides at a good pace and even after I’m done reading, I’ll stay on the side for an extra 30 seconds. I want to make sure he can look at it once more to memorize any information he hasn’t. Lastly I plan to use the self reference effect to help my significant other remember this information in his long-term memory. Self-reference effect requires one to relate the material to your own experiences. In my examples I’ve already done this for myself, but I will ask my significant other to relate the seven sins of memory to his own personal life if he can.
