 Lipids are esters of fatty acids or substances capable of
forming such esters and are utilizable by living
organisms.
 They are hydrophobic in nature. Lipids are organic
substances insoluble in water but soluble in organic
substances. Lipids are one of four major class of
compounds formed in living tissues. They are mostly
small molecules.
 They contain the elements carbon, hydrogen and
oxygen. In addition to the three elements certain lipids
also contain small amounts of P, N and S and are named
accordingly.
