Unit Code: AUEC2-002N Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment 1.Outline the safe working practices and procedures to be followed whilst preparing and tidying up your work area The safe working practices and procedures to be followed whilst preparing and tidying the work area are things like putting something back straight after you have used it. You do not want to leave all your equipment out at one time this is because it will make your area very messy and make things harder to do as you will have to room to perform. Not only that but if you put your tools back to where they are kept it will save time looking for them and prevent losing any equipment. When it comes to the end of a job I like to put everything back to where it is kept such as welding sets, leads, tools and brush the whole area. This is so everything is clean, safer, and easier to work with as if I left all my gear out from the last job I done there could be tools lying about that I would not need and would completely fill my work area up. This is not only to save time and effort it is a lot safer when you clean up after every job/day because if no one done that everything would be a mess, causing trip and slip hazards, possibly blocking fire exits and maybe even gang ways. 2. Explain the importance of applying the appropriate behaviours in the workplace and the implications for both the apprentice and the business if these are not adhered to The way you behave at work affects several aspects of your job and can affect the company’s health. Less than exemplary conduct could cost the company money, and it could cost you your job. Employers provide an employee handbook to guide staff members on appropriate conduct and limit possible problems. In addition to the written guidelines, the company’s culture and general rules of social etiquette also dictate appropriate staff behaviour. Employees are the face of a business, and the public forms an opinion of the company based on employees' conduct. Customers and clients can decide to take their business elsewhere if they are unsatisfied with an employee’s behaviour. Because customers share bad experiences with other people, this could have a considerable impact on the company’s revenue if customers and potential customers stay away. Employers can terminate bad-mannered employees to maintain a favourable image and protect sales. Inappropriate behaviour in the workplace is distracting for other employees and interrupts the workflow. This lost time is expensive for the employer. Frequent disruptive behaviour is also grounds for termination. Employees who behave inappropriately often miss opportunities for promotion. For instance, positions of responsibility rarely are given to the employee co-workers regard as the office clown. Such positions go to employees who are respected for their workmanship, have shown dedication, and have obtained results. Inappropriate behaviour at work can arise from the way employees handle sensitive information. A careless display or intentionally sharing such information could cause a loss of market advantage as well as legal and financial problems for a company. The employee responsible for damages could face legal action in addition to termination. 3. State how to present themselves in the workplace suitably dressed for the activities to be undertaken (such as being neat, clean, and dressed in clothes appropriate to the area of activity) Workers should be presented smart and casual. Workers must wear protective clothing such as overalls or lab coat; this protects the workers casual clothes from damage; also, if swarf or oil gets on your protective clothing it can be wiped/washed off. Another key item of clothing is steel toe cap shoes, due to being in a working environment steel toe caps are a requirement because tools or material could fall and hurt your feet, mot with steel toe caps. Also, steel toe caps usual have strong grip (tread) of which in the event of an oil spill, you wouldn’t slip over. Dean Moxon 4. Explain the importance of reporting to work on time, returning from breaks on time and the potential consequences if this is not adhered to. When you show up for work on time and are diligent about your attendance, you increase the chances that your supervisor or manager and your peers and co-workers will view you as someone who is committed to your job and responsibilities. In many cases, traits like dependability and reliability as just as – if not more – important as your technical abilities and qualifications. Consistently arriving to work on time demonstrates commitment and consideration for the people you work with, and the company that employs you. The benefits of being punctual include your ability to build positive and productive working relationships with your supervisor and peers. It also means you gain desirable traits that employer’s value and that you can perform your assigned job tasks within the allotted time. Not returning from breaks on time could result in distrust from you colleagues, you may have started a job and they are helping you in reaching your deadline to get this done by. If you return late its shows you are not showing willing and being a team player. Consistently being late could result in disciplinary action being taken against you, lateness is recorded on the clock machines, a consistent run of late strikes will result in a verbal warning. If you continue to be late furthermore serious action could be taken, as this puts strain on your business/department covering your lateness which in turn reduces productivity. 5. Outline the types of attitudes and behaviours that are likely to create conflict or negative responses Bad behaviours, especially at the workplace, are something which cannot be tolerated. It can spoil the good work environment at the workplace which can hinder the productivity of the employees. Even if your co-workers do not speak about it, bad behaviours surely irritate them. This can result in creating a disturbance in the relationship between your colleagues 10 behaviours in the workplace: 1. Job discrimination 2. Behaving with service providers as inferiors. 3. Erratic/aggressive driving that endangers others. 4. Mocking race, gender, age, disabilities, sexual orientation, or religion. 5. Taking credit for other’s work. 6. Littering. 7. Misusing handicapped privileges. 8. Behaving aggressively or bullying others. 9. Smoking in non-smoking places 10. Using Mobile phone or text messaging in mid-conversation or in a meeting. The effects of negative attitude  Team’s inability to deliver the project on time to its client.  Vandalizes the team cohesion  Will lead to having adverse impact team members within the team. Few other effects of negative attitude at the workplace are  Decrease in Performance  Unhappy Customers  Identify the Problem Situations A team lead or a manager is not alone solely responsible to make the environment positive. It is the duty of every single employee to take care, controlling their attitude when it comes to work. It is very important to remember, any kind of issues or problem among the team or work-related can be addressed only when being positive towards everything. Like a virus detecting software for a computer, every individual employee should work helping each other to not show a negative attitude to each other. This not only helps the workplace become better, but also it helps every individual employee to grow personally. Hope this post helps to know more about what a negative attitude and the different negative attitudes of the workplace is. Dean Moxon 6. Explain the benefits of team working and understanding of team objectives Working within a team allows for the workload to be shared equally among members and distributed according to each member’s skills and strengths. With more hands-on, tasks are completed faster and more efficiently, thereby productivity. A strong team environment is essential for the
