Opening Questions
How did you feel throughout the simulation experience?
Answer: I felt much better throughout this simulation. I work at an allergist/asthma doctors office so I
am somewhat familiar with Respiratory assessments and comfortable in the procedures and
education that was given to the patient.
What do you think went well?
Answer: The assessment went smooth, there was no rush for time as it was a focused respiratory
assessment. The patient did not wish to not take place in any part of the assessment and education.
Scenario Analysis Questions*
PCC What priority problem(s) did you identify for Christopher Parrish?
Answer: Patient had thick white sputum; adventitious breath sounds heard bilaterally in the lower
lobes of the lungs. Pt also has a low O2Sat which means patient needs to remain on 2L/min.
PCC What additional diagnostic study might the nurse request?
Answer: Patient has already had a CXR that showered pneumonia. A CT-Scan of Chest may be
requested depending on further monitoring of pt status and vitals. A PFT may be requested
but may not be accurate due to the pneumonia so this may be held off until pt has healed.
Peak Flow Meter monitoring during stay and at home for patient to keep record and track of
lung expansion. Continued monitoring of ABGs, CMP, and CBC.
PCC/T&C What are the priority interventions to prevent further compromise of the respiratory system
and infection for Christopher Parrish?
Answer: Continued Oxygen therapy. Antibiotic treatment and IV fluids to keep patient hydrated to
prevent further compromise of the respiratory system and infection.
PCC/ T&C What are the priority interventions to promote adequate nutrition for Christopher Parrish?
Answer: Discussing further with patient his previous and current nutrition. What he eats. Having
patient make a food diary to monitor for adequate nutrition. If pt continues to not eat
