BISHOP'S SCORE ( PRELABOR SCORE OR CERVICAL SCORE ) :
The Bishop's score is a set of scores, ranging from 0 - 13, given before a woman is in labor to
assess her likelihood of success with labor induction.
* Score 5 or less-labor less likely to start.
* Score 9 or more-labor most likely to start.
* Total score is 15.
1.DILATION OF CERVIX : It is the opening of cervix, entrance of the uterus for the childbirth. It
occurs in the first stage
of labor. It is measured in centimeters. Complete cervical dilation is 10 cm.
2.EFFACEMENT : It is also called as thinning of the cervix which OCcurs in
pregnant women as labor and delivery get closer. It is measured in percentage.
3.FETAL STATION : It describes the position of the fetus head in relation to
the distance from the ischial spines. Negative numbers indicate that the head is
further inside than the ischial spines and positive numbers show that the head is below the
level of the ischial spines.
