Evolution can be simply defined in three words; evolution refers to “change through time”. This simply
means life has a very long history and an ongoing process that everything must experience generations
after generations in a given population through changes, which results in biodiversity that we can
observe nowadays (Google, n.d.).
Convergent evolution is the theory that two species can evolve identical features even though they have
different common ancestors. Bird, bat, and insect wings are notable examples of convergent evolution.
On the contrary, divergent evolution is the procedure that creates new organisms, which may have
related functions but is quite distinct physically from their ancestors. The Darwin finches are an excellent
illustration of diverse evolution (Belvalkar, 2017).
Second, organisms develop in similar structures according to convergent evolution. In spite of the fact
that they diverged from the structure during their evolution, it follows that these species produce
structures with a similar reason but a different form and origin. Contrarily, divergent evolution occurs
when animals have homologous structures, which indicates that while having shared ancestors, the
functions and structures of the creatures are distinct. The wings of insects and birds, as well as the
streamlined bodies of dolphins and sharks, are examples of convergent evolution. An illustration of
divergent evolution is the Darwin finch (Belvalkar, 2017). In vertebrate animals including pigs, birds,
monkeys, and whales, the forelimbs often have comparable bone structures, although this has
occasionally altered when they are able to use their forelimbs in different ways, this is an example of
divergent evolution in action (Editors, 2019).
Finally, convergent evolution is the development of identical traits in species that originated from
separate species, for example, the wings of insects and birds. The Darwin finches, which have developed
into about 80 distinct species, are an example of divergent evolution that slowly creates distinct species
from the same parent species. Divergent evolution is thought to result from changes in migration or
environment, on the other hand, convergence is ascribed to environmental changes (Belvalkar, 2017).
