There are different types of digestion that occur in the oral cavity. The first is mechanical. Mechanical
digestion begins in the mouth while we are chewing food. Next we have Chemical digestion: this breaks
down the food into simple nutrients to be used by cells. This begins when food mixes with saliva in the
mouth.
”2. What is the function of the liver in digestion? ”
The function of the liver in digestion is to process the nutrients that the small intestine absorbs. It uses
the raw material to make all the chemicals the body needs to function. The liver detoxifies harmful
chemicals, and can break down and secrete drugs.
”3. What role does the gall bladder play in digestion? ”
The gall bladder stores bile which is used to help absorb and digest food.
”4. Why is the orientation of muscle of the stomach wall important? How does this contribute to its
function? ”
It is responsible for creating motions that churn to break down food.
