PSYC-FPX3520 Intro To Social Psychology Case Study August 2, 2022. Introduction Case Study Susan is a college student who feels that her studies have gotten in the way of her social life. She was invited to a party by one of her classmates. Susan is excited to get out again and hang out with friends, just hoping she has an enjoyable time. After she arrives at the party, Mark and his friend are speaking about her, she soon finds out that Mark likes her more than a friendly way. Once she is home she finds a friend request from Mark on Facebook, as she is scrolling through, she starts to get notifications that they are in a relationship, and it has been made public. Susan needs to find a way how to tell Mark that she is not interested in him without hurting his feelings, even though he invited her to the party and was nice to her. She thinks that it would be better for them not to be friends on Facebook, so she does not give him the wrong impression. Susan’s case will show us unrequited love theory, which means that the love is one sided. Sometimes people are unaware of someone else’s feeling when they have these strong feelings about someone, or they may not be as interested in the person and reject that person. You can love someone, but they do not have to love you back (Baumeister & Bushman, 2020). Research Support Research Summary In Bringle et al., 2013 research study did a survey that was based on unrequited love versus true love. This study was divided into three different sections. First section being with 318 people ages between 14-63 years old. These individuals were given a questionnaire to complete This study source was downloaded by from CourseH on :03:44 GMT -06:00 on these that they have occurred with current or past relationships. With this group of individuals, the results showed that feelings were related to unrequited love instead of true love. The second section of the research study had 404 people ages between 13-63, they were given the same survey as the first group, but this time the survey included measuring the quality of love in their current or past relationship. The results showed that intimacy levels in true love versus unrequited love and showed several types of emotions being portrayed. In the last section of the study, it involved 649 people ranging from the ages 16-48. The results of this survey show that unrequited love displayed feelings of commitment (Bringle, et al., 2013). In Ellemers et al., 2019 article talks about empirical research on social psychology of morality. Morality shows what is right from wrong way to behave. For example, that people should be fair and not unfair to other people. Making the right decision may hurt people’s feelings but you are doing what is best for you. There are three difference principles that helps us understand human morality in social psychology. One of those being is social implications; this refers to judgements about being right and wrong. This has been the most highlighted as defining characters of human morality. For example, good morality shows that people “should” or “ought to do” when it comes to making correct decisions. The second principle is understanding the evolutionary and biological approaches to self-awareness. When they are trying to escape from their own issues or blaming themselves when they do not own up to their own moral standards. Certain strategies have been associated that lets an individual separate from their own self views. The last principle is different theoretical views on human morality is a realization that debates about thoughts and ideas about right or wrong as well as the person emotional experience that people have occurred.
