MISK prompt: the last 10 people on earth 6/11/2020
Sample accepted essay
When I wake up and look around, I would be surprised and scared. Not seeing my parents
in the apartment, I would assume that they left me. Walking to our front door, I would notice that
their shoes are still inside the house. Panic ensues as my mind jumps to wild conclusions, but I
bury all my inner calamity deep inside and head out of the apartment. Seeing nobody around, I
assume the worst and head back inside.
I calm down and remember that I've watched a lot of survival and apocalyptic crisis videos that
have taught me things that could benefit me. I would immediately take advantage of the still
working internet, and post about my situation, making sure to include key details. Then, I would
print screenshots from websites that teach about basic survival, such as first aid and hunting.
Assuming someone responded to my posts, I would contact them and agree on a meeting loca-
tion. When I meet with them, I would discuss whether or not we should look for other people,
since it would be impossible for us in that scenario to know the exact amount of people still
alive. I would argue that we should look for a spot of land where the land is fertile, vast, and in a
good defensive position to reside in.
If the person disagreed with me, then I will separate from them and live on my own on that land.
I would not know if the other people are safe to be around, people tend to turn evil when author-
ity is no longer present. I would try to look for other people who survived because of course,
having a group of people would increase the probability of surviving. Farming, raising my live-
stock, retrieving fresh water from the river, and living modestly sounds like a fine life.
If I woke up one day and I was close to alone, I will build a new life from nothing and try to live
my life like that.
