Employee AA was hired by a popular fast food restaurant as an order taker and cashier. Shortly after
taking the job, she was shocked to overhear an employee bragging to a friend about shortchanging
customers. She confronted the employee who then snapped back: “Mind your own business. Besides,
everyone does it and the customers never miss the money.” Employee AA didn’t know how to respond
to this aggressive stance.

What would be the practical consequences on the fast food industry and on consumers if cashiers
generally shortchanged customers at every opportunity?
We experienced to be a customer not only in a restaurant but also in different kind of businesses
or establishment that offers services. When we put ourselves into the customers situation that did not
receive a good service from the staff, we will think that all of them are the same. We expect that the
employees had a proper training and ethics in accordance with how to provide a good customer service
for an establishment to gain the satisfaction of every customer. In the given situation here, Employee AA
is a newly hired employee that don’t know on how to respond to his co-worker’s mindset. In our opinion
when the management know that their employee is shortchange customers at every opportunity, he can
be fired from his job because of what he did by not returning the right amount of change to the customer
and the fast food that can be entered can also be in trouble because it can be an issue in their business
that will cause them to lose money.
The dishonesty on the part of the cashier can have a negative impact on other employees of the
restaurant. That would gain not a profit but a bad image for the company and the whole staff. If cashiers
generally short-changed customers at every opportunity the most practical consequence would be
deterioration of the business image because of a decline in customer confidence and other internal and
external issues. Even though such a minor act could potentially have a large influence on them, it will have
a negative impact on not only the customers but also the suppliers, creditors, and other parties. They
would stop believing in the company, and nobody would believe in the sector. The overall effect of
widespread dishonesty would be a shrinking economy with a lower growth rate and fewer goods and
services for sale at a lower overall level of quality cashiers routinely short-changed customers whenever
the opportunity presented itself.
