PRAC 6645 Clinical Skills Self-Assessment Form
The psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) has the responsibility to
provide mental health services to patients of a diverse population (Sadock et al., 2015). Clinical
practicum experience enables the PMHNP to apply classroom knowledge to a real-life learning
experience (Chan et al., 2018). The clinical experience provides an opportunity for the PMHNP
to partake in interdisciplinary quality care initiatives and interact with real patients in a valuable
hands-on environment (Günaydin & Arguvanli Çoban, 2021). The clinical site provides mental
health services including psychiatric evaluations, follow-ups, medication management, and
psychotherapy to patients across the lifespan (Günaydin & Arguvanli Çoban, 2021). The use of
best practices and guidelines is important for a successful clinical learning experience (Chan et
al., 2018). Bloom's Taxonomy learning objectives are integrated into the SMART format to help
healthcare professionals plan achievable goals to implement and improve their knowledge, skills,
and attitudes, with an emphasis on positive outcomes (Aghera et al., 2018). The purpose of this
paper is to describe the strengths, opportunities for growth, and goals and objectives of my
practicum experience.
