Leadership is a difficult concept to grasp. There are no rules that define how a leader
becomes successful. Although BlueStep (n.d.) claims that there are 12 essentials for
leadership success. First and foremost, a good leader is concerned with others rather than
himself. Then he should concentrate on team building and be adaptable and open to change.
He should understand that if the team acts, all external battles can be won. A good leader
should encourage open communication and ensure that his team members' goals and visions
align with those of the company.
Relationship theories (transformational theories) are, in my opinion, the most
important in today's global economy. This leadership theory is founded on open
communication. "Relationship Theories (Transformational Theories) hypothesize that
leadership should create positive change in subordinates by caring for them, thereby
improving subordinate motivation and performance" (Russell, 2011). In today's world, more
and more companies are attempting to go global, which is making it more difficult to keep
the team on good terms. Relationship leadership theory, as the name implies, focuses on
improving the relationship between the leader and his team members. This theory focuses on
aligning individual goals with the overall goals of the company. According to studies, when
members of a team believe their voices are heard, their productivity increases. This instills
even more confidence in the employees. Within this theoretical model, leaders typically have
high ethical and moral standards and strive to ensure organizational, group, and individual
success (Western Governors University, 2020).
As humans, we prefer to do things that we enjoy. Absenteeism will be reduced if
employees are motivated and satisfied with their work environment.
Employees would be constantly motivated and happy to come to work. When
employees believe they are contributing to something bigger than themselves, they are more
likely to put in extra effort at work, increasing their overall efficiency. This theory model, in
addition to promoting a healthy relationship between leaders and their team members,
promotes individual growth within the company. It aids in the development of employees'
skills. Furthermore, through open communication, leaders can instill a sense of ownership in
each individual, allowing the leader to raise awareness of the issue and be proactive in
finding a solution.
A leader should not be too obstinate about using only one theory. Different situations
may necessitate different theories, so the leader must be adaptable enough to use and adopt a
mix of theories as needed. Employees propel a company to the top, and as such I genuinely
think a positive relationship with employees will always be more beneficial, regardless of the
era we live in.
