Socio-Economic Effects of COVID-19 on People’s Lives
Because of the global nature of the pandemic, no one was safe from the spread of the
COVID-19 virus. The epidemic caused havoc on the economy, leading to layoffs, property
destruction, and public panic. The number of individuals working in all sectors of the
economy has reduced as a result of people being more socially and personally isolated as a
result of travel limits (Nicola et al., 2020). While schools were closed, there was a decrease in
the demand for commodities and manufactured goods. However, there was a dramatic
increase in the need for medical equipment and supplies. An upsurge in demand was seen in
the food industry as a result of stockpiling and panic buying. Concerns about a possible
economic catastrophe and recession as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic were also shared
by some.
COVID-19 has an impact on children in preschool all the way to university students.
The closures had far-reaching social and economic implications, despite their intended
purpose of preventing the spread of the virus within institutions and among those most at risk.
Students from low-income families experienced a decline in social mobility after schools
stopped providing free lunches. This resulted in higher rates of social isolation and dropouts
(Nicola et al., 2020). Costs for infant and toddler care skyrocketed for working families.
Because people weren't paying attention after a strange disaster, the situation
deteriorated. COVID-19 had a disastrous effect on the most vulnerable populations, reversing
many sustainable development gains (ReliefWeb, 2021). The agricultural sector was likewise
put to the test by the appearance of COVID-19. Due to the international economic downturn,
demand from restaurants and hotels for agricultural goods fell by 20%. (Nicola et al., 2020).
Communities, businesses, and organizations all throughout the world felt the effects of the
COVID-19's effect on the global economy and financial markets. The supply chain failed
because of the government's sloppy actions and subsequent lockdowns.
