Length: - about 42 ~ 45 cm.
Upper end: - continuous with medulla oblongata
at foramen magnum.
Lower end: - at the lower border of L1 in adult.
- at newborn at level of L3.

A long cylindrical structure and
slightly flattened anteroposteriorly.
Two enlargements
Cervical enlargement
- corresponds to the C4 to the
T1 segments.
Lumbosacral enlargement
- corresponds to the L2 to the
S3 segments.
