The Transcontinental Railroad
Chinese laborers arrived in considerable numbers in the United States in the mid-
1800s, following the Gold Rush. They undertook most handy jobs like blacksmithing and
tunneling with minimal compensation. Therefore, the Chinese played a significant role in
establishing ancient American infrastructure, but their contribution is significantly
undermined.
Chinese Exclusion
Chinese immigrants faced significant rejection and desertion that led to the
implementation of the Chinese Exclusion Act. The law barred the Chinese from migrating to
the United States, along with banning naturalized citizenship. The numerous traditional rules
and policies against the Chinese have shaped contemporary immigration laws in the U.S.
The Korean Immigration
The American perception of Korean immigrants played a vital role in the
international relations between the two nations, during both the Japanese colonial regime and
the post-liberation era. Korean’s were able to establish themselves as culturally and racially
different from the Japanese. The distinction was a gateway for social, political, and military
interactions with the U.S.
