Compare and contrast Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Phobic Disorder (6 marks). -Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, and phobic disorder are all types of anxiety disorder. GAD is characterized by chronic elevated anxiety tied to no specific threat (unrelated to any specific situation). Physical symptoms include muscle aches and tension, diarrhea, headaches, nausea and heart palpitation. Psychological symptoms include constant worry (and thinking about such things), inability to concentrate, and avoiding decisions. In panic disorder; Panic attacks are recurring and sudden unexpected attacks that include extreme anxiety, uncontrollable fear and trembling. This is different from GAD as anxiety is very severe with a GRADUAL onset, and occurring occasionally at irregular intervals (episodic). Phobic disorders are an irrational fear and anxiety of a stimulus. The anxiety is not proportional to the actual danger.
