Abstract
The ignition system on motorcycles greatly affects the quality of the fuel mixture
in the vehicle. The ignition system on the motorcycle when supplied with high
voltage from the battery affects the combustion quality of the fuel and air
mixture, resulting in changes on engine performance, fuel consumption, and
exhaust emissions. This study aims to gain knowledge about (1) the effects of
using a step up stabilizers on exhaust emissions produced; (2) the effect of the
use of fuel variations on exhaust emissions produced; (3) the voltage effect
regulated by the step up stabilizer on the resulting exhaust emissions; (4) the
best configuration of the use of step up stabilizer, fuel variation, and voltage
regulated to the step up stabilizer to get the best exhaust emissions.
This research is descriptive quantitative research with experimental methods.
This study used free variables namely the use of step up stabilizer, fuel variation
pertalite and pertamax, working voltage step up stabilizer. The test was to
analyze the effect of the use of step up stabilizer with fuel variation pertalite and
pertamax on the results of motorcycle exhaust emissions. Working voltage that
to be tested was 13,7 Volts to 14,7 Volts. The data retrieval process was done by
testing motorcycle exhaust emissions using gas analyzers according to the SNI
19-7118. 3-2005 testing standards.
The results showed that the best configuration to obtain the best exhaust
emissions of Honda Beat motorcycles in 2013 was to use a step up stabilizer
with the pertamax fuel with a carbon monoxide (CO) levels of 0.07% at a voltage
of 13.7 Volts, hydrocarbon levels (HC) of 19.3 ppm at a voltage of 13.7 Volts,
carbon dioxide (CO2) levels of 4.37% at a voltage of 13.8 Volts and oxygen
levels (O2) of 13.70% at a voltage of 14.4 Volts.
