‘’No way’’. This is the type of thing parents hear when they ask their teenagers to do
chores. In most households, the parents do all the housework. Although some
teenagers help in their homes, there are still teenagers that do not help. As a result of
this, teenagers do not learn the basic skills they need to take care of themselves.
Therefore, teenagers should put more effort into maintaining their homes.
First, learning how to manage a household early is necessary for adulthood. Doing
chores in a home teaches a child life skills. A child will eventually grow up and move
out. However, without any knowledge about cooking or doing the laundry, they
wouldn’t be able to manage a household. In fact, only 28% of American adults do not
know how to cook because they never learned to. This is an excellent example of why
teenagers should learn the basic things that are needed to be done in a home.
Moreover, research has shown that children that have chores will be more
responsible later in life.
Second, doing chores can improve planning skills. Adults need a job to earn money,
yet they also have to take care of their homes. Because of this, there’s only a small
amount of time to do housework. Consequently, the whole household would be a
chaos. To prevent this it would be helpful to know how to make a good planning.
Children that have chores need to find a balance between housework, sports, and
school. Therefore children have to make a planning to do all the things they are
supposed to do. Because the children have experience with planning it would be
easier for them to take care of their home.
Finally, helping in the house creates a better bond between a family. Doing the dishes
with your siblings, folding laundry with your mother or mowing grass with your
father. It all gives a child time to spend with their family. However, some teenagers
do not spend a lot of time with their family. Because of this teenagers do not see
their parents as someone they can tell everything to. In fact, researchers have
discovered that teenagers that do not spend time with their family, are at a higher
risk of getting depression during adulthood. Furthermore, siblings also do not bond.
Less than 10% of American adults do not talk to their siblings. Therefore, it is crucial
to spend time with your family even if it is just doing chores together.
To sum up, teenagers should put more effort into maintaining their homes. A child
would be prepared for the future, has an organized life during adulthood, and even
gets to make memories with family. All of these factors are a great reason for
teenagers to do chores. In conclusion, teenagers should help out with housework.
