- What is the de nitive host for W. bancrofti?
Humans
- What is the intermediate host for W. bancrofti?
Mosquitos and we have more that one species: Celux, Aedes and
Anopheles
- What is the diagnostic stage for infection caused by this organism?
Micro lariae
- Mention the name and discuss the pathogenesis of the disease caused
by this organism?
Lymphatic lariasis: in ammation followed by brosis leading to
blockage of lymphatic vessels.
Pathogenesis: Mosquitoes are infected with micro lariae by ingesting
blood when biting an infected host. Micro lariae mature into infective
larvae “ 3rd stage larial larvae” within the mosquito. When infected
mosquitoes bite people, mature parasite larvae are deposited on the
skin from where they can enter the body. The larvae then migrate to the
lymphatic vessels where they develop into adult worms, Adult worms
produce micro lariae which migrate into lymph and blood, thus
continuing a cycle of transmission.
- Mention the management of the case in the provided image?
Diethylcarbamazine (DEC) is the drug of choice against micro lariae
Surgery can alleviate most cases of hydrocele.
Vector control : Using insecticides, protective clothing ,Mosquito
netting and repellents
