Abstract
This paper is all about modern slavery and how it has been perpetrated in different organizations.
The companies selected in this paper are Tesco and Carrefour. The report will depend on
secondary sources that is the annual reports that the companies have released on modern slavery.
From the findings of this paper modern slavery is caused by the greed and urge of reducing costs
that is why many companies engage in forced labor activities so that they can be able to save on
the cost. The other issue is when companies are engaging in illegal business and they don’t the
information to reach the authorities, they will have to kidnap people and use them as their
, workers. On concluding, the report has given some recommendations on how to combat modern
slavery in the organizations.
Introduction
This research is all about how modern slavery is perpetrated in different organizations in the
world. The research will depend on secondary data that is available in order to make valid
conclusions from them. This paper will analyze two annual reports from two different companies
and try to understand how modern slavery is perpetrated in the companies. It will be good
therefore to understand the meaning of modern slavery in an organization what it entails and how
it is normally perpetrated. Slavery in its modern sense refers to the forced labor or servitude of
others for material gain. Sexual exploitation, servitude in the home, forced labor, exploitation in
the workplace, exploitation for criminal purposes, and organ harvesting are all included (Jappah
and Smith, 2022; Cucinotta, 2022). Modern-day slaves can be of any age, gender, nationality, or
ethnicity. Workers are coerced or intimidated into working, and they may feel unable to leave or
report the crime out of fear for their safety. This person might not see themselves as a victim. It
therefore means that it is something that is perpetrated by people who are powerful within the
organization and those who are the victims are people with less powers in the organization as
much as organization management is concerned.
This research will therefore depend on secondary data and there will be no primary data that will
be collected. Simply said, secondary data consists of information that has previously been
gathered from primary sources and is now easily accessible for further study (Pandey and
Pandey, 2021). This is information that was gathered in the past but is still useful now. The
research will therefore rely heavily on the articles that have been produced by other companies
and use them to make conclusions.
Research objectives
This research is very important because it will give information that is lacking in many
organizations. there are senior employees in a company that could be perpetrating modern
slavery but they are not aware therefore the research will provide valuable information to them
that can enable them to know whether what they are doing can be modern slavery. The
information will also will help the employees to know that certain kind of actions are not normal
