Dance is meant to be fun for students
o Some may not find it fun (be embarrassed, not feel confident, think they
cannot dance)
o You will notice as the older students become, the less they want to
participate in dance
o Need to think of ways to participate reluctant students to engage actively
Part of teaching dance is teaching students the different elements/types of dance
o Teach these different elements to students through movement
o May teach locomotor movements or non-locomotor movements through
different dance movements
o Focus on body parts

Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
o Ensure to use metalanguage when teaching and speaking to students
o Ask for their input
Content from Google Classroom videos will focus on Stage 2 and Stage 3 as this is
when a whole lot of different skills are taught, and some teachers find it difficult to
teach these older children
o Early Stage 1 is all about movement experiences (“Can you be this animal?
Can you make your body into this shape? Can you move like this?”)
Look at Creative Arts units of work for ideas and content to teach this
o Look at how to Creative Arts and PDHPE outcomes can linked, as well as
