Begins at 9th week

Complete differentiation at 12th week:

1. The phallus enlarges to form the penis

2. The urogenital folds fuse to form the spongy (penile) urethra

3. The labioscrotal folds (swellings) fuse to form the scrotum



B-Different stage:

BEGINS AT 9TH WK

Male External Genitalia

*Differentiation of male external genitalia is induced by testosterone secreted by
testes.

*Completed by 12th week

• genital tubercle (phallus) will elongate & differentiates to form corpora of penis.

• genital folds elongate & fuse to form skin of undersurface of penis. , Prepuce
grows forwards as a fold of skin which covers glans penis.



• labioscrotal swellings

fuse together to form scrotum. The line of fusion is indicated internally by scrotal
septum & externally by scrotai raphe.
