What your tongue can really do
The human tongue is quite the amazing little organ
with many talents and functions. some of those
functions you may have already heard about. This note
discusses some of the functions and myths about
tongue. When we analyze the surgical head dissection
On a cut through the midline we can see the amazing
tongue. The tongue is an accessory digestive organ
and food court eventually makes it down near to the
esophagus and the tongue is primarily made up of
muscle tissues covered with mucous membrane and
we can n see the mucous membrane at the surface of
the tongue. The functions of the tongue are essentially
do these two main components.
The muscles of the tongue and the myths about it
The tongue muscle can be e broken down into to
categories. the Intrinsic tongue muscle and the
Extrinsic tongue muscle. The extrinsic tongue muscle
actually originate outside of the tank actually attaching
to born and insulting those fibers into the connective
tissue of the tongue. the intrinsic tongue muscles are
little bit different they stay completely within the
tongue. The extrinsic tongue muscles will help us to
move the tongue in all sorts of different direction side to
side in and out so we can participate in all sorts of
, activities like assisting the speech manipulating moving
and shaping food living things like ice cream. there are
four pair of extrinsic tongue muscles. One is the chin
born and this is called Genioglossus.Genio refers to
chin and glossus refers to the tongue. When this
muscle contracts it will protrude the tongue help to stick
our tongue. The next one is Hyoglossus Muscle
because It is coming off the little high bone. This will
bring the tongue back in or retract it. The other two
muscles are called palatoglossus and
styloglossus. So what about role in the tongue and
changing the shape of the tongue. It is done by the
intrinsic tongue muscles. Those intrinsic tongue
muscles originate and stay in the tongue. they don't
attach to any of the bones outside so pretty much make
up the meat of the tongue.
There are actually for different types of intrinsic
muscles and their names based upon the direction in
which the muscle fibers ko aur what we would call it
fiber orientation. There is superior and inferior
longitudinal fibers which cause the length of the tongue
optical fibers will go up and down in transverse fibers
which he comes across because wearing different fiber
orientation is it will allow the tongue to change its shape
