Why our colon produces flammable gas
There are multiple names for expelling gas from the anus, the majority of
which tend to be slang terms and because of all of us have that teenager
inside us.Some of them are rectum scale, air biscuit anus applause, barking
spider, break wind, Booti Bomb for extra, fart etc….There are actually 200
slang terms. But the medical more recognised terms are flatus or
flatulence refers to the term gas. The term flatulence is often used to refer
to an excessive amount. There are three potential sources where this gas
Some of it can be actually be absorbed through the inside lining of the
stomach or flatus can get into the digestive tract or is produced within. The
first is just swallowed or gas.So when we are eating and swallowing food
then the surrounding air or gas will passed through the esophagus, and
esophagus just lies posterior or behind our windpipe or trachea, some of it
will make it into the actual stomach. And since that gas came from the air
surroundings us, this is primarily going to be made up of Nitrogen and
oxygen. The swallowed gas even make it to the majority of the digestive
tract. It makes it through 20 feet of small intestine and all the way down to
the large intestine which refers to the colon and eventually out to the
anus.only very little makes it in the small intestine. The majority of actually
belched out or burped out, technical term for this is called eructation.
Some of it can actually be absorbed through the inside lining of the
stomach and into the bloodstream. The nitrogen and oxygen is not
considered flammable.Oxygen helps other flammable substances to burn
and it is one of the reactant. But it is not directly flammable.
Another potential source of flatus is produced within the beginning of the
small intestine called the duodenum. And within the duodenum, carbon
dioxide can be produced from the breakdown of the digestion of fats and
proteins. It can also be produced from some of the acid making it in the
stomach to the small intestine and interacting with the some of the
bicarbonate that will be released from the pancreas. Because the small
intestine does not like an acidic environment and that bicarbonate is trying
to neutralize that acid. The majority of the Co2 or that gas will get absorbed
into the inside lining of the small intestine and into the bloodstream.
