Suicide in Islam
ABSTRACT:
Suicide is the purposeful taking of one's own life. It is the world's most
serious mental health issue. Self-harm is defined as purposely injuring
oneself in order to experience agony without intending to take one's life. I'll
go through several facets of suicide and willful self-harm, as well as their
societal and Islamic implications. Youth nowadays are involved in activities
that lead to depression and anxiety, and their detachment from religion plays
a crucial role in this. They become fatigued when they feel lonely and lifeless,
and all they want to do now is feel something, so they seek out other methods
to experience pain in order to feel alive. I'll argue that suicide and self-harm
are not merely psychiatric problems, but also have sociological implications.
Different sociological issues will be examined, as well as how society
perceives the act of self-killing. It is investigated what awaits a man who
commits suicide in the hereafter. Suicide is haram, as evidenced by this
study's use of Quranic verses and hadith references. It will also be discussed
that Islam does not condone suicide or self-harm because Islam teaches us to
have firm faith in Allah and that our lives are an amanat. If we go against
Allah's decision and take the command to end our lives on our own, we will
be held responsible for that sin. The major features of depression and
,anxiety that lead to self-harm and ultimately suicide will be discussed in this
research paper.
INTRODUCTION:
Suicide can be defined as :
“ The act of intentionally injuring and resultantly killing onself with the
goal of ending life.”
“Emile Durkheim”, a french philosopher was born on 15 april, 1858.
Durkheim presented a theory on ‘suicide’ and he established a view that
suicide is somehow a part of the this society and no such socities exist where
suicide doesn’t occur. Durkheim on the basis of his monographic studies
claims suicide a social phenomena in terms of breakdown of the vital bond of
life. His studies explained that suicide is not a personal act, infact it is caused
by some power that is over the indivdual. The research of many doctors
proclaimed that most of the people who commit suicide are in a pathological
state but Durkheim’s theory clearly has a view that suicide is not an
individual act, niether a psychological act but it is social. It is the result of
many social disorders or lack of social affiliation and social unanimity.
TYPES:
Suicide can be categorized into folowing types :
, • Egoistic Suicide:
This type of suicide is commited by a person when
he faces social descrimination when he finds himself alone and isolated
in this world full of people. A person who is self centered and who
considers that he has no place in this society and he tends to destroy
himself deliberately. A person who lacks compassionate feelings and
who is usually cut off from the conventional world.
• Altruistic Suicide:
This type of suicide is commited by a person because man is an
embodiment of emotions and the most superior of those emotions is:
love, compassion, affection and affilaiton. A person deliberately ends
his life when he finds himself overwhelmed by these emotions. This
type of suicide is caused by an individual's excessive incorporation into
societal proof Over integration and extreme obsssesion for something
leads to this. For example sati customs, dennies warriors etc.
• Anomic Suicide:
This sort of suicide occurs when societal equilibrium is disrupted, such
as when a person commits suicide after filing for bankruptcy or
winning a jackpot. In other words, anomic suicide occurs in a scenario
that has arisen unexpectedly.
• Fatalistic Suicide:
This type of suicide is due to overregulation in
society. When a servant or slave commits suicide, or a barren woman
