LIGAMENTS OF UTERUS
3+4
A—3 PERITONEAL LIGAMENTS:
1-Broad ligament:
Def: double-layered sheet of peritoneum.
Site: in pelvic cavity [ ] lateral margin of uterus to side wall of pelvis.
Shape: quadrilateral with 4 borders & 2 surfaces (upper & lower ) due to normal
position of uterus (anteverted anteflexed) .
4 Borders:
, • Anterior free border: encloses uterine tube.
• Posterior attached border: attached to floor of pelvis
• Medial border: is attached to lateral margin of uterus
• Lateral border: attached to side wall of pelvis.
2 Surfaces;
Superior [intestinal) surface:
• related to coils of ileum & sigmoid colon.
• upper layer is forms mesovarium.
Lower (vesical) surface: related to urinary bladder.
Subdivisions of broad ligament:
1-Mesometrium : close to uterus.
2-Mesovarium: connects ovary to upper layer of broad ligament. transmits
ovarian vessels & nerves to ovary.
3-Mesosalpinx: [ ] uterine tube & mesovarium & ovarian ligament.
4-Suspensory ligament of ovary:SLO
(infundibulo-pelvic ligament)
** () lateral end of uterine tube & lateral wall of pelvis.
** transmits ovarian vessels & nerves to mesovarium.
