Introduction
Confucianism also called Ruism is a behavioral and thought system originating from the ancient
China. It is a way of life developed from hundred schools of thoughts from a Chinese
philosopher called Confucius in years 551-479 BCE. Confucius regarded himself as
retransmitter and recodifier of values and theology inherited from Shang and the Zhou dynasties.
The worldly concerns of Confucianism rests on belief that human are fundamentally teachable,
good, improvable and perfectible through communal and personal endeavor, particularly self-
creation and cultivation. The Confucian thought according to Pourret (2002), mainly concerns
cultivating virtue in an organized manner (morally). This paper analyzes the various aspects of
the Confucian law.
Doctrines in Confucianism
Confucianism revolves around pursuit of unifying individual and their God of Heaven;
cementing the human relationship with heaven. The principle of Heaven is an order of source of
divine authority and creation, which is monistic-structured. Conversely, individuals might
realize their humanity and become one with heaven by contemplation of this order. This
transformation might be extended to society and family in attempts of creating harmony in the
community.
According to Pourret (2002), heaven is not pre-existing the temporal world. Creation is therefore
continuous order, instead of seeing it as creation ex-nihilo. Yang and Yin are considered to be the
visible and the invisible, the active and receptive ones, shaped and unshaped, characterizing all
year round cycle, the sexes; both male and female, and also sociopolitical past (order and
disorder). Notably, Confucianism is concerned with seeking middle way between yang and yin in
the configuration of the world.
