is considered tampering with the content and will result in a 10-point grade deduction
per assignment.
Should removal of the questions or examples imbedded in the response box of the template persist by the
student, in addition to the 10-point deduction, the student will be referred to the Office of Student
Conduct for final disposition. You are strongly encouraged to be mindful of this course policy.

● The ONLY change students may make to the template is to enlarge the space to make their entries
in the response boxes.

● Should you encounter any difficulties with these course policy guidelines, please consult with

●Boundaries What defines the boundaries? Roads, water, railroads. Is the
area known for a particular name? What area is this
community located in?

My area is defined by roads, it does have a railroad track that goes through the
center of my 10 block radius. The area is the town of Sachse, TX located
about 25 minutes north of Dallas.

●Housing What is the age of the houses? Describe type of construction
and Zoning material, appearance, and general condition. Do you see
single family housing? Multi-family housing?

The ages of the home vary between builds in the 1950’s to early 2000’s.
They are predominantly brick homes with a few made from siding. Most are
single story ramblers. They are single family homes with a few duplexes.
There are no apartment complexes with in my 10 block radius. They are in
moderate condition. The homes are older but still maintained. There is one
area that seems to be a higher concentration of poorly kept homes with a
lower socioeconomic status.

●Common Where do people in the neighborhood hang out? Who hangs
Meeting out there and what hours of the day?
Places
I did not see a designated hang out spot however my area does include the
picnic grounds for “Backyard off 5th” which is a community gathering every
Friday night starting in the spring. The majority of the people I saw out
during my drive through were visiting the cemetery or getting something to
eat at Sonic. I was driving around mid morning, it was mostly day laborers at
Sonic stopping for an early lunch and it was elderly people at the cemetery
visiting graves.

●Indicators of Is this a “thriving” community or does it look “run down?” Is
Growth or there new or ongoing construction? Businesses and
Decline Industries coming to the area? Are buildings, roadways, and
public areas clean and well-kept. Do you see dirt, trash, or
graffiti?

This particular area of this community does look run down. There is no new
construction going in and the business that are in look dreary and sad. The
public areas are free of trash and graffiti however they do not look “clean”.
They appear dingy and outdated. The landscaping is not clean and looks
barren.

nt Name the businesses and industries in this area.
Opportunities
Along the main road within my area are multiple business many with different
areas of focus. Within the food industry there is Sonic, Pizza Hut, Mr. Pide,
Sachse Ice House, and Burger Island. There are also several automotive
businesses including an Allsup’s gas station, Lakeside Motors, Barrett Motors,
Tires Plus, Detroit Customs and Collision, and Dale’s Jet Sport. There is also
a retail store, The Dollar Store, a funeral home, Charles W. Smith and Sons,
as well as a museum, the Sachse Historical Society Museum.
