In Activity 1, it is like you are brainstorming all the things that Painless Smiles MIGHT need to fulfil their
requirements.
✓ You must consider all the services that the business/staff need to provide, by looking at their job roles in Part B,
then consider what hardware, software, networking and legislation will be necessary to provide that service.
✓ From there you need to list as many considerations as possible. At least 3-4 hardware, software, network,
legislation is needed for the ORGANISATIONAL NEEDS.
✓ You are only doing brief explanations and if you list a lot of these things in your research notes, then you can
create an impressive list in the given time.
✓ There are 2 columns to complete for the organisation and 2 columns for the customer/client.
✓ Column 1 – state the requirement: A SAN to centralise the data storage, digital imaging equipment
✓ Column 2 – give a BRIEF/SHORT explanation for why it MIGHT be useful: Painless Smiles WILL NEED a storage
area network to centralise all the different departments’ data and keep it secure.
The dentists will need digital imaging equipment to modernise the surgery with an integrated imaging system to
take quick images of patients' mouths. The images can be sent digitally to other devices in the network.
✓ You also need to consider what services the clients expect Painless Smiles to provide for them in the
CUSTOMER/CLIENT REQUIREMENTS table. This will always be less than for the business but consider the
services THEY EXPECT e.g. secure website; login details; various payment methods; personal data kept safe;
dentists who know what they are doing; hygienic, treatment rooms; ability to modify appointments.
