“The Application of Technology Maximizes Agricultural Productivity in
Indonesia”
In the current era of digitalization, the application of technology is needed,
especially in the agricultural sector. Personally, I believe that agriculture is a
sector that plays an important role in people’s lives and economic growth of a
country. The agricultural sector in Indonesia is able to increase agricultural
product productivity due to technological advancement. This is supported by
Rahmalia’s statement (2018) that agricultural technological innovation plays an
important role in increasing agricultural productivity. Another reason is that
modern agriculture the applies technology is able to shorten harvest time while
maintaining superior product quality. Meanwhile, traditional farming takes a long
time to harvest. Because most farmers in Indonesia are classified as a poor,
agricultural processing is still done with traditional tools and takes a long time
(Saputra & Ratnawilis, 2019). Many people say the application of technology will
facilitate and optimize the agricultural production process. For example,
combining the farming of crop varieties with livestock is more productive, and the
use of decision support systems can encourage evidence-based decision making
(Rose et al., 2016; Rose & Bruce, 2017), leading to the smarter use of minimal
inputs with maximum result. In addition, according to Struik & Kuyper (2017),
robotic technology can provide benefits to farming communities as compensation
for the loss of labor, which is a serious problem in developing countries, along
with population migration to urban centers. To conclude, technology plays an
important role in the development of sustainable agriculture, so it needs various
new innovations needed in agriculture sector.
