Abstract
As teachers are being challenged to adapt with the new era of 21st century, an instructional
approach that can emerge students’ motivation in learning should be applied in teaching-learning
activities inside the classroom. Keeping the students engaged in an attractive lesson is needed to
prevent them from being bored and reduce a frustration. Four major skills, which are:
Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity (4Cs) are also needed to be
mastered in this era. Hence, Project-based learning is believed to be an approach that could
accommodate and integrate those four skills. Students are expected to be able to communicate well
with a variety of people, manage time and work effectively. Nowadays, students are also expected
to possess HOTS (High Order Thinking Skills) in their learning process. The implementation of
Project-based learning (PBL) will integrate and equip the students with HOTS. PBL will also
sharpen students’ ability to be a problem solver, critical thinker and decision maker as it is also
expected in the Standard of Graduate Competencies in Curriculum 2013. However, some people
recognize project-based learning (PBL) projects as hands-on activities assigned as homework or
end-of-term assignment. This paper will then propose a framework of Project-based learning
(PBL) to ensure the project design will include students’ collaborative learning and creativity.

might grow tired of worksheets, drills, or other traditional instructional methods. The High School
