PROFESSIONAL GOALS 2 The purpose of this paper is to identify short and long term goals using specific, measureable, attainable, relevant, and time-specific facets. The reasoning for goal selection, their relation to professional practice, and a strategic plan will also be presented. Goals According to MIT (n.d.) goals should be written in a clear and definitive manner while describing what is to be achieved, and precise dates and times should be listed to allow the measurement of accomplishment. Relevant and attainable, but challenging goals should be utilized to encourage the wanted directional achievement (MIT, n.d.). The author’s first short-term goal is: To complete this class with a B average or higher by February 1, 2020. It is measurable, relevant, and attainable for this disciplined student. This achievement will signify the end to a difficult but rewarding journey, while symbolizing the beginning of the author’s next career. Passing the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Board Exam by March 15, 2020 is the author’s second short-term goal. After achieving the previously listed short-time goal, preparation for board exams shall begin. The amount of time needed to prepare is based on individual needs, some must study longer than others. The author feels that 30 days of dedicated groundwork will be an appropriate amount of time to prepare. An additional short-term goal is to: Accept a full-time APRN position with a minimum salary of $100,000 within one year of certification date. Long-term goals are harder to set for the author. For many years, the only long-term goal in existence was to complete the APRN program! Because that is approaching, effort must be placed into a broader future. Long-term goals: 1.
