PURPOSE
The purpose of this assignment is to consider the value of highly reliable healthcare organizations, and
cultural characteristics reflective of highly reliable organizations. Students will identify an existing
organizational mission, vision, and values in order to appraise congruence with a culture of excellence. The
extent to which the organizational mission, vision, and values reflect a culture of excellence and high
reliability will be examined.
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOME
Through this assignment, the student will address the following course learning outcome:
CO 2: Explain the priority challenges for complex healthcare settings regarding organizational
management, leadership, and education for staff and patients (PO #5)
SUGGESTED DUE DATE
This assignment has a suggested due date of Sunday 11:59 pm MT at the end of Module 2.
Final due date is Sunday 11:59 pm MT at the end of Module 7.

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
Identify a healthcare organization where you have worked in the past or currently work. Examine the
mission, vision, and values of that organization. Use a minimum of 4 current scholarly sources to support
your work and create a 3-5 page paper to address the following elements:
1. Provide an introduction to the paper.
2. Explain the importance of high reliability within healthcare systems. Discuss the organizational
characteristics that support a culture of excellence and high reliability. Explain the climate and culture
within organizations which cultivate a culture of excellence and high reliability.
3. Present the mission, vision, and values of a selected organization, and explain the interrelationships
between these elements. Discuss how the mission, vision, and values support high reliability and a
culture of excellence within the organization.
4. Discuss the culture, climate, and leadership within the organization. Consider the degree to which
they do or do not support a culture of high reliability. Propose one recommendation to either improve
or sustain the culture, climate, and leadership within the organization.

ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
1. Abide by the Chamberlain College of Nursing Academic Integrity Policy.
2. Sources older than five years may not be used without the permission of the class professor.
3. Title page, pagination, subheadings, body of paper, citation of sources, and reference page must
follow APA guidelines as found in the current edition of the manual.
4. Rules of grammar, spelling, word usage, punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure are
followed and consistent with formal, scholarly writing as noted in the APA Manual (current edition).
5. No more than one short direct quote (15 words or less) may be used in this assignment.
6. First person should not be used within this assignment.
7. Please note: If you do not receive a proficient rating in any major content category, you can re-
submit your assignment with revisions in those content categories to receive a better grade. You
have one additional opportunity to revise after the initial submission in order to make
improvements. The initial submission must be a complete paper, rough drafts will not be graded. All
