Facial recognition

Hello everyone, today I am going to be talking about why facial recognition should be banned. My name
is Hevee, a second-year software engineering student at the university of Kurdistan Hawler. I have a
great interest in tech and specifically tech security, it all started 4 years ago when I started reading
books and articles about them. And that’s what led me to choose my major. The main points that I am
going to be mentioning about my topic are the 3 risks we face due to facial recognition technology
usage.

Which are

1. Privacy threats
2. Misidentification which is also called ‘racist AI’ in facial recognition
3. Misuse

First, let's define what facial recognition technology is and how it works;

It is a type of software that uses artificial intelligence to analyze and identify human faces from
images or video. It is used in a variety of settings, such as unlocking phones, airports, and
banking.
1. Facial recognition works by Facial recognition software by detecting real time images of a face,
either alone or in a crowd. It is most easily detected when the person is looking straight
at the camera. However, modern technological advances allow face recognition
software to still work if the person’s face is angled slightly.

2. After detection and recognition, a photo will capture the face and will then be analyzed.
The software reads the geometry of your face. It measures the distance between
various points on the human face, such as the width of the nose, depth of the eye
sockets, distance between the eyes and shape of the jawline so it can distinguish
between different faces.

3. The face capture process transforms analog information which is the face into a set of
digital information based on the person's facial features. Your face's analysis is
essentially turned into a mathematical formula. The numerical code is called a faceprint.
In the same way that thumbprints are unique, each person has their own faceprint.

4. Your faceprint is then compared against a database of other known faces. For example,
on Instagram any photo tagged with a person’s name becomes a part of Instagram's
database, which may also be used for facial recognition. The facial recognition
