From the readings, Eglitis argues that developed countries are not doing more to ensure
that world poverty is reduced. Global poverty is continuing. In the future, it is expected to
become worse if these nations do not take mitigation measures to minimize the levels at which
poverty is rising. Eglitis argues that individuals from rich and developed countries are taking
advantage of global poverty to benefit from it. Therefore, she supports this idea by discussing
eleven points that show evidence on the same.

The use of worldwide poverty in terms of economic inequality is seen as an advantage for
west people to continue enriching themselves without providing long-lasting solutions to global
poverty. First, Eglitis argues that global poverty helps to have wealth from affordable goods that
come from the West for western consumers. These cheap goods make most consumers buy them
at a lower price without knowing they enrich people from the West. Global poverty benefits
companies from the West and shareholders in terms of them making increased profit margins.
