Medical School Essay
My interest in medicine begin when my mother got ill from a severe tooth ache that keep her
up all night and a villager told her that the pain will stop if she punctures her gum that carry the
tooth ache with a needle. As my mother was in dying need of solution she went on and did
exactly as the man have told her. My mother never slept that night the pain got worsen and she
cry all night from it. The next morning, she was taken to distance clinic where her tooth was
removed which brought an end to her pain from this point as child, I begin to consider the need
of becoming a medical doctor to provide the necessary care and advice to people that need it
the most to avoid them from getting the advised that my mother got.
After, the first round of civilc war that started in my country Liberia, West Africa in 1989 has
end, and school resume my parent were left with nothing and my mother was struggling with
health issue. And every day I saw people die from curable diseases like material and Cholera
due to inadequate health facilitiesy and medical practitioners, so I always pray that one day I
will become a medical doctor to help save life. During my high school year, when I was first
introduced to biology, I got impressed and wanted to know more about the human system.
wWhen I did studied Anatomy & Physiology 1&2 during my medical Laboratory training it even
give me created a stronger passion for medicine which haved been my ambition during high
school. Before graduating from high school, my country was again faced with another round of
civilc war that amounted to 14 years total of civic conflict.
Being the first child from my family to get a high school education with the ambition of
becoming a medical doctor. My dream slowly faded away because my parents had no money to
get me into college with the financial difficulties that left them living on less than one United
State dollar per day. I them decided I was going to apply for any job particularly in a hospital or
health facility that will keep me motivated. Luckily, I was accepted to work at a health center as
a security guard and, after one month working as a security, based on my curiosity to learned I
was brought into the labhired as a Llab aid. As time passeds by the little money that I earn, I
invested the little money that I earnit in a one-year nurse aid problem course where I was
trained on how to find IVset intravenous fluids, administer infusion and even give some medical
diagnoseis. As I work at this facility at some point, I was called from the lab to come and insert
infant intravenous line due to the lack of medical doctor and nurses. At this facility I saw
infants die from anemia due to malaria why preparing blood product for them. At one time, we
had six accident patient and one of them were profusely bleeding and needed blood I volunteer
to give the blood, while getting the blood the patient got expired and my blood was given back
to me. Some time I went with medical doctor in the operating room and observed operation
being done. These interaction with patients and doctor gives me the motivation to become a
medical doctor to do more for my patient.
I later got a scholarship for a three-year medical laboratory program which I took advantage of
and attended. During the three year that I spend at this training problem I was always an A’s
student. At this school I served as president for my class. Outside of school and work I was
