Foot Bones
Tarsus (ankle): 7 bones,
calcaneus, talus, navicular, cuboid, cuneiforms (lateral, intermediate and medial)
Metatarsals (sole): 5 bones
Phalanges (toes): big toe has proximal and distal phalanges; other toes, each has
proximal, middle and distal phalanges
The sole of the foot does not rest flat on the ground because the bones are
arranged to form three strong arches:
1-Medial longitudinal arch is highest
2-Lateral longitudinal arch
