Healthcare policy evaluation is an essential aspect of policy-making process that allows policymakers to know the extent of the success or failure of the policy and give them the sense of basis for brainstorming on what needs to be done to re-shape/improve the system for improved outcomes. The nursing process identifies evaluation as an essential tool for achieving improved patient outcomes; the same ways are federal, state, local and organizational healthcare policy should be evaluated to know if the goal of establishing the system is achieved or a need for modification. Opportunities that exist for RNs and APRNs to actively participate in policymaking review is to join professional nursing organizations (Milstead & Short, 2019) and participate in policy review meetings. For example, joining American Nurses Association (ANA), the National League of Nursing (NLN), the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), or American Evaluation Association whom the federal and the state lawmakers mainly rely on throughout policy evaluation process before enacting or amending a policy is an excellent avenue for RNs and APRNs to get involved in policy review (Milstead & Short, 2019).
