Nursing Diagnosis Statement Community Health Nursing Diagnosis: Increased risk of COVID-19 infection: Increased risk of COVID-19 infection among 18 to 24-year-old Hamilton County, Indiana residents related to a lack of compliance with COVID-19 restrictions and local health department guidance to avoid large gatherings, social distance, and wear masks as evidenced by 18% COVID test positivity rate. B.1 Health Inequity/Disparity Hamilton County is located north of Indiana's state capital, Indianapolis. The suburban county has a population of 338,011 residents. Young adults between the ages of 18 - 24 make up 7.8% of the people, or 23,361 persons (United States Census Bureau. 2019). Data obtained from the Indiana State Department of Health COVID Dashboard provides evidence that 18 to 24-year-olds have the highest COVID test positivity rate among the total population at nearly 18% (the State of Indiana. 2020 ). A COVID-19 rate disparity exists between 18 to 24-year-olds and the rest of Hamilton County's population. The county as a whole has a 12.3% positivity rate while the affected 18 to 24-year-old age group is at 18%. (Regenstrief Institute, December). A cause for this rate disparity is the affected group's inability to comply with social distancing guidelines and mandates, which has resulted in a higher rate of infection. A site assessment of Midtown Carmel, an area packed densely with bars and restaurants, KMP1 — KMP TASK 1: SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN 3 provided evidence that young adults are gathering socially without wearing masks. Another site assessment at River Road Park, the home of multiple sporting fields, found young adults gathering to practice without wearing masks and social distancing. B.1a Primary Community and Prevention Resources Residents of Hamilton County have ample access to community and prevention resources. The county has a well-established government complex accessible via the internet that connects residents to healthcare providers, income assistance agencies, emergency services, school facilities, and food services (Hamilton County Indiana, 2020-a).
