WK8 Assign NURS 6050
HealthCare Program within my Practice Among the healthcare programs within my practice is alcohol and drug abuse treatment program, which involves detoxification from alcohol abuse or drug abuse or both. This program is a short term treatment program that offers a wide range of activities to stabilize patients suffering from alcohol and drug addiction after which the patient is referred to a long term facility if they so wish or discharge to home for outpatient discharge aftercare follow up. When a patient is admitted into the facility, patient’s referral documents gives the nurse at the intake department an insight of a suitable program the patient needs to be treated in and will be sent to the assigned unit for initial after intake/initial assessment is completed. As soon as the patient arrives at the detox unit, the vital sign is taken by the Mental Health Assistants as well as a thorough search for any form of weapon or drugs that the patients may hide on them. The RN in the unit conducts a comprehensive assessment of the patient to determine holistic need of the patient including withdrawal level from the substance use while intake order from the doctor will include Clinical Opioids Withdrawal Scale (COW) or Clinical Institute Assessment for Alcohol (CIWA) to determine the necessity for the initiation of detox protocol. Once it is determined that detox treatment is needed, a team of professionals will work collaboratively and develop an individualized treatment plan that includes medical therapies to overcome withdrawals (detoxification) and other interventions such as family support, individual therapy, group therapy, and experimental therapy
