The primary purpose of Drug Court is to incorporate substance abuse
treatment, as well as mental health treatment and intensive supervision and
judicial oversight to maintain public safety and the individuals who are
responsible. Drug Court helps individuals by holding them accountable and
teaching them to develop skills necessary to obtain long term sobriety. This
reduces barriers of treatment to nearly 50% of the cost of treatment while
also helping substance abuse monitoring. There are three stages in Drug
Court programs:
• Phase 1- this phase includes the required extensive treatment. Drug
and alcohol monitoring, community service, weekly scheduled
meetings with a probation officer and making an appearance in Drug
Court twice a month.
• Phase 2- Includes Phase 1 but no longer will need meetings with the
probation officer or Court appearances in the weekly and monthly
frequency, this is also the beginning of payment to the Court for fees.
• Phase 3- Treatment is completed in this phase, Court fees are paid in
full, community service is completed, meetings with the Court and
